Coun. Laura Ip’s motion to make the Niagara Region councillors vote for the chair in an open session would be welcome.
This letter points out “upper- and lower-tier municipalities working independently from one another to develop their own capital budgets is a recipe for rising taxes.” I agree entirely.

Seriously? Another municipal election is going to pass us by without voters being able to choose the chair of Niagara Region?
Current leadership has eliminated need for change in Niagara. Direct election of regional chair won't happen this year.
That is the whole basis of supporting the double-direct city/regional councillor election concept. St. Catharines requested that model last term, and Niagara Falls council requested it this term.
Are you in favour of the Council of the Regional Municipality of Niagara passing the necessary resolutions and bylaws to change the method of selecting its Chair from appointment by members of Regional Council to election by general vote of all electors in the Region?
